Abhyanga or Ayurvedic Warm Oil Massage is Ayurveda’s traditional healing massage. In addition to being deeply relaxing, it is nourishing and nurturing on all levels – physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. The focus of Abhyanga, a full body massage, is to deeply relax the mind and body, and bring a sense of peace and centeredness. This treatment is highly recommended for vata constitution or imbalances, insomnia, anxiety, grief or loss.
Shirodhara is a profound Ayurvedic where a continuous stream of warm, herbal oil is poured over the center of the forehead, as well as the crown of the head. Shirodhara is extremely helpful for stress, a restless mind, insomnia, and anxiety.The treatment begins with a foot, hand, neck, head, and facial massage, helping you to relax and preparing you to receive shirodhara.
Basti is paired with Abhyanga and can include hrid (heart), kati (back), greeva (neck) and netra (eyes). With basti, we prepare a dough ring made of wheat flour, and then pour warm herbal oil into the ring. The basti serves as a healing portal on the physical, spiritual and emotional levels.
Swedana is a steam bath. At the end of your treatments (abhyanga, shirodhara, or both) a steam tent is placed over the massage table. You relax and steam to encourage the loosening and release of toxins.
